L'Eva del Taller de l'Eva ens va engrescar i vam acabar anant a la Fira d'Oristà a fer una demostració de com s'acoltxa. Una gran experiència i amb ganes de repetir.

Retro shop: Their Nibs

Hem descobert aquesta botiga de roba d'estil retro i vintage gràcies a un regal d'aniversari arribat d'Anglaterra. Their Nibs es va obrir el 2003 a Londres amb la intenció d'aportar al mercat de la roba infantil un aire més fresc i original capaç d'oferir una alternativa a les marques habituals.

A mi m'agradat l'aire retro del disseny i dels estampats de les teles que mostren una gran influència dels anys 50, 60 i 70. 

A més de tots aquests dissenys, la botiga instal·lada a Notting Hill, té una col·lecció vintage de roba i joguines dels anys 50 en perfectes condicions.

I abans de tancar aquest post voleu saber quin regal ens ha arribat d'Anglaterra? Doncs, una preciosa funda nòrdica vintage per a la Sol (disculpes per la qualitat de les imatges).

Easter egg hunting and balloon viewing

This year Easter has been full of surprises. First of all, we had a balloon landing in our garden!!! How wonderful!!

Hem tingut moltes sorpreses aquesta Setmana Santa. El primer dia de vacances ens hem despertat amb un globus aterrant al nostre jardí!

Directament des de França, bé... gairebé, han vingut a participar a la festa del Mercat del Ram.

I, avui, al jardí, hem trobat uns ous molt deliciosos sota la planta de ruibarbre.

Today, we went egg hunting and, to our surprise, we found two deliciously flavoured chocolate eggs under the rubharb plant.

Spring, Spring, Spring

Una petita mostra de la primavera a casa.

Quan arriba aquest temps fem un spring cleaning al jardí. Reorganitzem les plantes, arranquem les males herbes, comprem noves flors... però haig de confessar que el que m'agrada més de tot són les margarides salvatges que apareixen per diversos racons.

Per això sempre faig guàrdia perquè ningú me les talli.

Spring cleaning at home means pottering around the garden, planting new flowers, smelling the freshly cut grass, and....checking no one cuts my lovely wild daisies.

Happy International Children's Book Day

Des de 1967, cada 2 d'abril (el dia de l'aniversari de Hans Christian Andersen) se celebra el dia internacional de llibre infantil. Cada any una secció internacional diferent de l'organització IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) escull un tema i invita un autor a escriure un missatge i un il·lustrador a dissenyar un pòster per promocionar la lectura. 

Aquest any el país encarregat és Estònia que ha presentat aquest pòster dissenyat per Jüri Mildeberg:

The Book Remembers

“When Arno and his father arrived at the schoolhouse, classes had already begun.”

In my homeland Estonia nearly everyone knows this line by heart. It is the first line of a book called “Spring”. It was published in 1912, and was written by the Estonian writer, Oskar Luts (1887 – 1953).

“Spring” is about the lives of the children attending a parish school in Estonia at the end of the 19th century. Oskar Luts was writing about his own childhood. The character Arno is actually Oskar Luts himself as a child.

Researchers study old documents and based on these they write history books. History books speak about events that have happened, but it is not always clear from the history books what ordinary people’s lives were like.

Storybooks remember the things that you cannot find in old documents. For example, they can tell us what a boy like Arno was thinking when he went to school a hundred years ago, or what children in those days dreamed of, what they were afraid of and what made them happy. The book also remembers the children’s parents, it remembers who they wanted to be like and the kind of future they wished for their children.

Of course we can write books today about the olden days too, and these are often very exciting. But a writer today cannot really know the smells and tastes, and the fears and joys of the distant past. Today’s writer already knows what happened next and how the futures of people in the past turned out.

The book remembers the time in which it was written.

From the books by Charles Dickens we can find out what a boy’s life was really like on the streets of London in the middle of the 19th century – at the time of Oliver Twist. Through the eyes of David Copperfield (Dickens’s own eyes at that time) we see all kinds of characters that were living in England in the middle of the 19th century – what their relationships were like, and how their thoughts and feelings influenced their relationships. Because David Copperfield was in many ways Charles Dickens himself, Dickens did not need to make things up, he just knew them.

It is also from a book that we know what it was really like for Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn and their friend Jim as they travelled down the Mississippi at the end of the 19th century, when Mark Twain wrote about their adventures. He had a thorough knowledge of what people at that time thought about each other, because he lived among those people. He was one of them.

In works of literature, the most accurate accounts of people in the past are those written at the time that those olden day people lived.

The book remembers.

Crocheting fever (2): slowly but surely.

A poc a poc anem augmentant els granny squares. Quedava pendent l'última passada perquè no sabia ben bé per quin color decidir-me. Finalment, he començat a fer proves amb el negre. Tinc els meus dubtes però m'agrada força. Continuo?

El matí, quan porto els nens a l'escola cantem el Bon Dia dels Pets. Ens anima el matí i ens contagiem de la seva alegria. A més, he retrobat una cançó del mateix album que m'emociona. Escolteu-la.

El tiempo entre costuras

Tot i que, en aquest blog, no és la meva intenció mostrar novel·les per a adults sinó literatura infantil i juvenil, no puc evitar fer una entrada sobre un llibre que m'ha enganxat molt i que, a més, té a veure amb un altre interés meu: la costura.

L'autora de El tiempo entre Costuras, María Dueñas, narra la vida d'una modista que es veu involucrada en un món de secrets i mentides a l'Espanya de la primera postguerra. No explico més per no espatllar la lectura de ningú, només dic que quan comenceu la lectura no podreu parar fins a acabar-la. 

L'èxit tan fenomenal de la novel·la fa que ja s'estigui preparant una sèrie per la televisió, en concret per Antena 3, i la protagonista serà interpretada per Adriana Ugarte.

Crocheting fever (1)

Ja veieu que fins i tot la Lola Sue Bear s'ha aficionat al ganxet. Em sembla que acabarà la seva granny blanket abans que jo.

De moment, m'acontento amb mostrar-vos el meu primer quadret de ganxet que espero que sigui el primer de molts. La meva intenció és fer mantes com la de Mias Landiv, de la Ingrid Jansen de Wool & Wood Stool, o de la Meisi; però finalment m'he decidit per provar el patró de la Lucy d'Atic 24: Summer Garden Party Granny Square que ha quedat així:

Lauren Child

As usual for Christmas we purchase a few books in Amazon. This year I have to write about the following book because we love her very much:

La Pippi Longstocking il·lustrat per la fabulosa Lauren Child. Vam descobrir la Lauren Child amb la Clarice Bean i, òbviament, amb Charlie and Lola a la televisió. Després hem anat afegint llibres seus a la nostra col·lecció.

Segons l'autora, el personatge de la Pippi l'ha inspirat sempre per ser una nena independent amb un punt d'inocència barrejada amb una dosi de picardia i que no li importa gens 'el que diran' els altres. Per això els seus personatges femenins, com la Clarice Bean o la Lola, són nenes molt fetes a la seva, amb una gran personalitat i un punt extravagants, fet molt refrescant en la literatura infantil.

Aquests són alguns dels llibres il·lustrats i escrits per Lauren Child, que a més ha creat un llibre especialment per a Unesco: That Pesky Rat.
